Cat5e vs Cat6 vs Cat6A — Which Is Right for Your Sacramento Business?

The most common question we hear from Sacramento businesses. Here’s an honest breakdown — what each category delivers, what it costs, and who it’s right for.

HOW IT WORKS

Our Structured Cabling Installation Process

From your first call to final sign-off, here’s exactly how a structured cabling project works with our Sacramento team.

Free Site Survey & Consultation

We visit your Sacramento, CA location, assess the space, identify pathway routing, evaluate your existing infrastructure, and fully understand your IT requirements. We don’t quote from a floor plan — we walk the job to ensure accuracy and efficiency. Same-day site surveys are available throughout the greater Sacramento area.

Scope & Fixed-Price Quote

Within 24 hours of the survey you receive a detailed written scope of work with a fixed price — no hourly rates, no open-ended estimates. The scope covers cable counts, cable category, pathway routing, rack and panel layout, and testing methodology.

Cabling Design & Schedule

We produce a cabling design drawing, cable schedule, and patch panel port map before the install begins. Every drop is numbered, named, and assigned — so the install is organised and documented from the first cable pulled.

Professional Installation

Professional Installation
Our BICSI-certified technicians install the cabling to ANSI/TIA-568.2-D standards. Cables are properly supported, bend radius maintained, crossings dressed, and all runs terminated and dressed neatly at the patch panel. We work at times that minimise disruption to your Sacramento business — evenings, weekends, or phased delivery.

Testing & Certification

Every cable run is tested with a Fluke DSX-8000 CableAnalyzer to Level IV Permanent Link standards — that’s every single run, not a sample. Results are measured against ANSI/TIA-568.2-D pass/fail criteria and exported as digitally signed PDF reports.

Documentation & Warranty Handoff

You receive: as-built drawings, complete port map spreadsheet, test reports for every run, telecom room photo documentation, and manufacturer warranty registration. Your IT team will know exactly what’s installed and where everything connects.

“We needed 120 Cat6A drops installed in our new Downtown Sacramento office over a single weekend before our team moved in Monday morning. They delivered flawlessly — every cable labeled, documented, and fully certified. The telecom room looked professionally built and meticulously organized. Highly recommend for any Sacramento office build-out.”

Sandra R. – Practice Manager · Medical Clinic, Sacramento

“Our Sacramento medical clinic needed a complete cabling upgrade — 60 drops across two floors — with zero disruption to patient care. They scheduled everything after hours and completed the project in three nights. Every run passed certification on the first test. We couldn’t have asked for a cleaner, more professional installation.”

David T. – Facilities Manager · Logistics Company, Sacramento

“We called three contractors for our Sacramento warehouse. Sacramento Data Cabling was the only team that actually visited the site before providing a quote — and the only one that offered a clear, fixed price. The installation was clean, efficient, and the documentation package they delivered was thorough and professional. We’ll absolutely be using them again for our next Sacramento location.”

Jennifer P. – Office Manager · Law Firm, Midtown Sacramento

“Our law firm in Downtown Sacramento needed Cat6A installed throughout the office to support our new VoIP system and WiFi 6 deployment.
